Events this week for local folk

Tuesday, January 11, 2011

Here are several free literary events coming up this week:

  • An evening of spoken word performances, This Much Is True, tonight at the Hopleaf at 5148 N. Clark Street. This monthly gathering is marked by great beers on tap and a fun atmosphere.

  • If you’re looking for an opportunity to read, Stories at the Store is soliciting submissions for their January 26 event to be held at The Store on Halsted Street, another monthly happening. Submit to Megan at mfulara@comcast.net.  We’re fortunate to have a number of storytelling events in Chicago and I’ll mention more of them in coming weeks.

  • Christian Wiman, editor of Poetry magazine, will read from his new collection, Every Riven Thing, on Thursday, January 13, from 7-10 PM at the Stop Smiling storefront at 1371 N. Milwaukee Avenue. To attend, send an email to rsvp@stopsmilingonline.com.
  • The 64th Street Print Shop, located at the Woodlawn Collaborative at 64th Street and Kimbark Avenue, will conduct a type sorting workshop on Saturday, January 15, from 12-3 PM. Learn about lead type, fonts, California cases, and more. To attend, send an email to 64thstreetprintshop@gmail.com by Thursday.
