With streets unsullied by plow

It’s a good day to do nothing but read.

A couple amusing items from The Guardian this morning:

  • Take this quiz to test your acumen for great paintings.

Already available for consideration is The Silent Land by Graham Joyce. A previous winner of The World Fantasy award, Joyce has been stalking the boundary between literary and fantastic fiction for some years. His latest novel is an emotionally shattering exploration of the human need for love, focused through the lens of a contemporary ghost story.

For Chicago artists and writers, Chicago Art Magazine made this announcement in January:

To enhance the creative practices of people who live and work in the city, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs will conduct an online survey at www.creativechicagosurvey.org beginning February 4 and continuing through February 25. The Creative Chicago Survey, the most comprehensive and widest reaching survey of its kind in Chicago, will invite all creative practitioners to describe who they are and what they need to thrive, including specific space and business assistance information.

The survey is anonymous, takes about 15 minutes to complete, and is available in English and Spanish. We’ll report back when the results are released to the pubic later this year.
