Francine J. Sanders is a Chicago-based writer and teacher.  She was an investigator for eight and a half years for the Chicago Police Department’s civilian investigative unit, the Office of Professional Standards.  During that time, she handled some of the unit’s most high profile, sensitive cases including the investigation of torture allegations against former commander Jon Burge.  She currently teaches screenwriting and film studies courses, and consults on police brutality issues. She has served on the faculty at Columbia College Chicago, Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts Academy, and Roosevelt University, and has also taught and helped develop a world film series at Oakton Community College’s Emeritus Program for adult learners.   She is a five-time recipient of a writer’s residency at the Ragdale Foundation.  Her written work includes a memoir about her experiences at the CPD (“Policing the Police,” Chicago Reader, 2003), and she is currently developing a television series based on this world.  Her favorite genre, to nobody’s surprise, is film noir.
