In the Picture

In the picture that wasn’t taken
I lost my arthritis and started running

But was still
Overrun by the sea

As if I had been faking it all along
My bad knees stiff pelvis as if

I had been cured of wheelchair or cane

Evangelized prosthetized
And the world broke into laughter

I leapt over a high wall to flee
The patrol then ran for miles

On a twisted ankle without pain

I would have walked in water
Were it not for a donkey

That blew up on the shore
A landmine on the edge of sand and brine

I would have held you in my arms
Would’ve smelled of algae for days
